Our services have been expanded to include the Jaguar X100 and X150
At P&K Thornton Restorations, we’ve recently started completing work for the Jaguar X100 (XK8 & XKR) and X150 along with some newer Jaguar models. We have spent some time getting ourselves familiar with these models so we’re now able to offer specialist services for these Jaguars, such as metal and electrical work, servicing, tuning and more.
The Jaguar XK8 was in production between 1996 and 2005, replacing the XJS. Available as a coupe and convertible and was inspired by the classic E-Type design. Housing a 4.0L AJ-V8 engine, offering around 290 horsepower, which was later upgraded in 2002 to a 4.2L engine, offering a smoother performance. The XK8 is also equipped with a luxurious leather interior and advance technology for the time it was released.
The XKR was launched along with the Jaguar XK8. This Jaguar has a supercharge engine and offers a better performance than XK8. The XKR is an overall sporter alternative in both design and power, again taking inspiration from Jaguar’s classic E-Type. The XKR came with sport-tuned suspension and sharp handling characteristics, to compliment the increased power produced. Under the hood, the XKR is powered by Jaguar’s AJ-V8 engine, a 4.0L producing around 370 horsepower. Similar to the XK8 the engine was upgraded to a 4.2L, producing 400 horsepower, enhancing performance and reliability. Jaguar’s classic elegance is also reflected inside, offering comfortable and luxurious interiors with a sportier touch than the XK8.
The Jaguar X150 was introduced in 2006 as the second edition model in the XK range. These Jaguars were in production until 2014, they were produced to improve the grand touring lineup. Like the X100 range this model was available as a coupe and convertible. This Jaguar was designed by Ian Callum and has a more modernised design whilst still retaining Jaguar’s elegance. The X150 has a V8, 4.2L engine producing 300 horsepower and the supercharger version offers 420 horsepower. In 2009, the engine was upgraded to a 5.0L V8 delivering 385 horsepower and 510 horsepower in the supercharged version.
Some common issues in the Jaguar X100 (XKR & XK8) are that the timing chain tensioners are prone to failure, which could lead to severe engine damage, transmission problems from valve body wear or failure of the torque converter lock-up clutch. Also look out for suspension wear, rusting issues and cooling system failures. Additionally, some common issues with the X150 are the water pump are prone to leaks, there can be wear on the suspension components and electrical issue. Along with these a common issue with both Jaguars are the mechanisms in the convertible roof can leak or fail.
We have recently had seen more Jaguar XK8 and XKR come in for service with us. These models are almost 30 years old and coming to an age where they might need some metalwork restored, especially around the sills. We are happy to assist with all restoration work for the Jaguar X100 XK8 / XKR and X150.
