It's been a metalwork kind of week!

This week we focused our efforts on metalwork. With several restoration projects in the PKT workshop requiring panel attention, we started with the Mk II 3.8 that was in need of an engine bay complete tidy up. With the engine, transmission and all ancillaries removed, now it’s the time to correct the tired looking engine bay. We’ve started by removing the old flaky coating to exposed original factory primer, always a good sight! Removing the paint coat also exposed metal imperfections, rust affected area that required renewing before it got any worse. We’ve dully re fabricated the required panels and proceeded to weld and finish to perfection, maintaining the original look.

Next in line was the early E-Type S1 Roadster in for an Aluminium bonnet supply and fit. When fitting a new bonnet to an E-Type, the challenge is always there. No E-Type body is exactly the same as another, hence the art of pairing a new bonnet with an E-Type body. The use of Aluminium when it comes to the E-Type bonnet shows several advantages. As the Aluminium bonnet is nearly 40% lighter than an original steel bonnet, the weight saving translates in a better weight distribution and an improved driving experience. The other main advantage of the Aluminium bonnet is the resistance to rust over time, battle won!

Third in our metalwork line was the S1 E-Type Roadster body shell that required sanding down, metal cleaning and priming before paint is applied. Lead loading is one of our old skills that we often get complimented for, best put into practice on this body shell.
