1964 Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupe, on the road to perfection
We have recently been invited to inspect this Jaguar E-Type 3.8 FHC and advise on the potential restoration process and steps to follow. P&K Thornton Restorations were chosen for this project based on our high level of experience established within our company from 1965, an era which perfectly befits the age of this classic beauty.
Following a friendly, non-obligatory conversation about the needs of the car with its custodian, an initial assessment of the overall condition was undertaken where it was determined that there were major signs of wear in obvious need of some P&K Thornton TLC.
Due to incorrect alignment of the bonnet against the bulkhead, significant rust present in places, poorly running engine and general under par mechanical and trim condition, we’ve recommended paint removal by media blast to expose the true condition of the metal structure. With the metalwork exposed, we will be able to assess the best way to make corrections and return “the most beautiful car in the World” to it’s original Browns Lane specification. While the bodywork has the paint removed and the metalwork corrected, we will proceed with a complete strip down of all sub assemblies, re-chrome and re-zinc all components requiring treatment as per the original specification.
All mechanical parts will be stripped, labelled and mapped with a longer term view to lovingly restoring each individual piece of the jigsaw to rebuild it to perfection.
We will return with a more in depth update on our findings once we’ve concluded stripping the E-Type and inspected the under panels. If you would like to discuss the rejuvenation of your E-Type, please don’t hesitate to get in touch using the contact form below or via our usual contact details :
