S1 E-Type IRS rear axle and gearbox - full rebuild

A very familiar picture! They all start like this, don't they?

Often one of the most neglected areas, this complete S1 E-Type IRS and Moss gearbox arrived on our doorstep for full recommissioning - the works.

The team first carefully strips and logs every component to then remove every trace of grease and dirt as well as any oxidisation and flaking. This is followed by a thorough aqua blast for all Aluminium components like bellhousing and hubs, then a fresh powder coating for the IRS frame, trailing arms and driveshafts, zinc plate for brake castings – each part finished to perfection before we even think about putting it back together.

Next step is the ‘minor’ task of rebuilding the entire differential, before fitting the refinished and rebuilt brake calipers, discs and pads, shock absorbers and springs; at the same time upgrading the handbrake mechanism, renewing the bearings in the hubs, new brake lines and fitting the quick bleed upgrade to one side.

All that’s left then is to fit new polybushes, shims, locktabs and lockwire; grease in the right places and finish to perfection.
